Tips from Other Anonymous Paralegals
Anonymous Paralegal #3 – My (confidential) input as a litigation paralegal in a very large firm. Our cases can be quite large, but a typical case will have one paralegal, one paralegal clerk, 1-2 associates and 1-2 partners.
- Keep me (and everyone on the team) informed. If you limit your communications with me and other staff to assigning specific tasks, we cannot view the big picture and anticipate your needs.
- I know you're the boss, but treat me as a respected member of your team, not like "the help." If you display an elitist attitude, you may cause me to become less invested in my work.
Anonymous Paralegal #4 – My job would be easier by not giving me 20 tasks that you want due in a few days, then treating it as a failure when they are not all accomplished. Work cannot be completed accurately when there is an impossible deadline.
Anonymous Paralegal #5 – Please be available when I need to ask a question and give me an answer as promptly as you can. Otherwise, I can't complete my tasks.
Anonymous Paralegal #6 – Making sure I stay part of the "team."By that I mean having meetings to discuss the cases and having me as a part of those meetings. And no matter how insignificant you believe any mail or document is, if you would send me a FYI, I could be kept apprised of everything being done in the case and use and/or update things as necessary.
