Technology Helping with Medical Treatment

Technology is changing the standard of care for medical treatment. EICU allows doctors to monitor a lot of patients in intensive care units at multiple remote sites.

From the Kaleida control station Monday, health professionals were monitoring 58 patients at two hospitals via screens that displayed patients' diagnosis and progress, doctors' notes and vital signs, such as heart rate and blood pressure.
Those familiar with the technology predicted it would become part of the future of critical care across the country, enabling hospitals to make the best use of a limited number of intensive care doctors.
And of course the software can be designed to automatically alert the doctor's when vital statistics fall out of a set range. The alerts can be set based on the patient's history and illness. These alerts can help the doctors respond even faster.

The standard process is to have nurse's monitor the patients for problems, if there is a problem, then they have to track down a doctor, the doctor has to review the information and then check out the patient in the ICU.

This process shortcuts everything by putting the information directly into the doctor's hands. Pretty smart. Hopefully, we'll see more intelligent use of technology in the medical field.
