Inexpensive Aerial Mapping by Street Location

In October, Google purchased Keyhole, a digital aerial mapping company. There's been a lot of aerial mapping companies before, but what makes Keyhole different are the digital features and it's high resolution.

You can find a location by typing it's address. The pro version of Keyhole allows you to zoom in and fly to anywhere in a a city. Go to the site and check out their demo tours of Boston and Athens. They are really quite spectacular.

Keyhole also has a very high resolution on many cities. They have mapped the entire globe to 15 meters. Charleston and Columbia, SC are mapped to a resolution of two feet. The lucky residents of San Diego, Las Vegas and Boston are mapped to three inches. I'm not certain exactly what that means, but I think it means you can tell if someone got mustard on their chili dog.

An annual subscription to Keyhole is $29.95. If you want to do the animation, you need the Pro Edition which is an annual subscription of $599. Both allow a 7 day free trial membership. I'm going to sit this one out until they map Myrtle Beach, but this looks quite promising.
