Best Practices for Information Technology also Best Practices for Law Management
Jeff Beard of Law Tech Guru posts about a CIO.com article summarizing the following four best practices that can lead to better IT performance at a lower cost.
Better use of outsourcing
Simplification and standardization of IT systems
Higher levels of process discipline, and
Better alignment with business goals
Reading that, it seemed to me the same could be applied to law firm management.
Better use of outsourcing - Using an investigator, life care planner, medical assistants or even transcription services. What time consuming or cumbersome tasks could be outsourced to an organization that is better suited to handling it?
Simplification and standardization of systems - Does your firm have a standardized questionnaire for when a potential client calls? How about a standardized checklist for standard tasks such as opening a file, closing a file, ordering medical records or disbursements?
Higher levels of process discipline - Once you have defined and standardized the checklists, use them.
Better alignment with business goals - Once you start using them, refine the checklists and questionnaires so that they are truly effective and helpful.
Wow. Sounds like a recipe for a successful law firm to me.
