Godaddy Domain Names and Bob Parson's Rules of Survival

Al Nye, the Lawyer Guy picks up the hubbub with Go Daddy’s Super Bowl Ad. Right now, I consider Godaddy.com the best place to register a domain name. You can register a domain for $7.95 and park it with godaddy. It’s quick, cheap and easy.

Godaddy.com was founded by Bob Parsons, who has a great  16 Rules of Survival. My favorite rules?

  • Always be moving forward. Never stop investing. Never stop improving. Never stop doing something new. The moment you stop improving your organization, it starts to die. Make it your goal to be better each and every day, in some small way. Remember the Japanese concept of Kaizen. Small daily improvements eventually result in huge advantages.
  •  Measure everything of significance. I swear this is true. Anything that is measured and watched, improves.

  •  With regard to whatever worries you, not only accept the worst thing that could happen, but make it a point to quantify what the worst thing could be. Very seldom will the worst consequence be anywhere near as bad as a cloud of “undefined consequences.” My father would tell me early on, when I was struggling and losing my shirt trying to get Parsons Technology going, “Well, Robert, if it doesn’t work, they can’t eat you.”

Click on the link and check out all of the rules. It makes for a great read.

Good catch, Chris. I had originally put Computer Guy for some reason, but have fixed it now.

Apparently the GoDaddy rules for survival include dragging the rest of us through your own mid life crisis.

Yes, Bob, there will always be young women who will show your their tits for money. Yes, there will always be young men who will salivate and thinks that is so edgy.

But is that enough to justify a business model? Maybe. The porn industry has done fine with that model. If you are positioning your busines as a porn business, you have very much succeeded.

But, my company, a lowly Fortune 100 entitity with things like "hostile workplace environment regulations" and "litigious female employees", they are not so amused by your desire to portray your company as a titty company.

Frankly, my clients cannot afford to be associated with GoDaddy.

It's called downside risk, my friends. And we are advising our clients to get as far away from GoDaddy as they can before the feminist lawyers hit the fans.

Apparently you can save 3 or 4 dollars by subscribing with GoDaddy vs. the other guys. Unfortunately, the "hostile workplace" sexual harrassment lawsuits will cost a lot more than you will save.

Stay the hell away from GoDaddy!
