Why People Don't Like Lawyers

A guest post from a friend:

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy.

So this lawyer is in a doctor's office in Mount Pleasant yesterday.
She is asked to present an identification with a picture so that her
insurance card and use can be confirmed. She IMMEDIATELY begins to
yell loud enough for my friend (and the other 20 people in the waiting
room to hear): "I am a lawyer and I know the law. Since January of
2008, it is against Federal law to request a picture ID. You should
know this......." blah blah blah.

After her outrage, the people working at the office AND in the waiting
room (part of any potential venire) were heard to comment, almost in
unison, about how bad lawyers are, how they are and have destroyed
America, etc etc.

This lawyer hurt us all.

My brother is the GM at high end car dealership. The stories I hear from him
about Lawyers and how they act in his showroom would make us all
cringe.

Pray allow me to offer some advice. If you define your entire self by
the fact that you went to law school and passed the bar, PLEASE, get a
life. A dog. A friend. A gold fish. A family.

If you were asked to prepare your tombstone and list ten of your best
and highest accomplishments and Number 1 is lawyer, PLEASE get a life.
A favorite hockey team. A bike. A religion.

If your bar card is the first card in your wallet, PLEASE get a life.
A new car. A hobby. A drink.

Why would you not simply and quietly lean over the counter and say (if
it is true), that requesting photo ID is no longer legal? The medical
practice would have been responsive and thankful for the free advice
and the audience would not have another complaint about "lawyers".

Ms. _____ may be the nicest attorney on East Bay, but she made us all
look bad yesterday.

Relax.

Obviously, that lawyer is a jerk but I don't think lawyers act ridiculous in public anymore than doctors, garbage men or Indian chiefs.

Literally, my doctor asked me for a copy of my driver's license TODAY, believe it or not. You know what I did? I gave it to them. It is picture. Who cares?
